How Does Adopt-a-Lab Program Work?
Schools work on a district level to enroll schools per district in the program at one time. A team of teachers, custodial staff, administrators, and students carry out the program at each school.
An introductory virtual H2O lab workshop helps the teams get started and work together, creating school-wide awareness, and taking the message home and into the local community. Throughout the year, each school is supported by H2O lab platform.
What are the Benefits?
- Student learning – hands-on real-world topic that inspires and energizes students, and adds meaning and excitement to academic learning.
- Integration with the curriculum – the program brings a wealth of top-quality resources to schools, such as lesson plans, and new-technology knowledge and know-how that include tools from simple water quality measuring tools to complete water labs. All lessons are interdisciplinary, integrated into a teacher’s regular curriculum, and are aligned with state curriculum standards.
- Improved school and community relations and morale – a benefit of the program is the working partnership created between teachers, school staff, students and their families, and local businesses as they work together in a team to implement activities. Safe and clean water is a local issue and a cause that the whole community can benefit from, and when students conduct research and advocate for 'clean and safe water', everyone wins.
